It\u2019s not too late to save money this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If you live in Ontario, Canada, are 65 or over, or live with someone who is, you only have one month left to take advantage of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #286cba;\"><a style=\"color: #286cba; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/healthy-homes-renovation-tax-credit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Healthy Homes Renovation Tax Credit<\/a><\/span>. Expenses paid before December 31, 2016 for improving the safety and accessibility of your home will be eligible for a 15% tax credit on your personal income tax. Keep reading to learn more.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From the Province of Ontario\u2019s website, we\u2019ve listed the products that Accessibility Professionals offers,\u00a0that would be eligible for the tax credit:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>wheel-in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #286cba;\"><a style=\"color: #286cba; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/freedomshowers.com\/Handicapped-Accessible-Showers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">showers<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/freedomshowers.com\/Shower-and-ADA-Bathroom-Accessories\/Bathroom-Grab-Bars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #286cba;\">grab bars<\/span><\/a> and related reinforcements around the toilet, tub and shower.<\/li>\n<li>wheelchair <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #286cba;\"><a style=\"color: #286cba; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/freedomliftsystems.com\/Wheelchair-Lifts-for-Homes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lifts<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>installing <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #286cba;\"><a style=\"color: #286cba; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/freedomliftsystems.com\/Wheelchair-Accessible-Kitchen\/Adjustable-Height-Counter-Lifts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">adjustable counters<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>installing <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #286cba;\"><a style=\"color: #286cba; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/freedomliftsystems.com\/Wheelchair-Accessible-Kitchen\/Cabinet-Shelf-Lift\/830-VERTI-15-39INCH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">adjustable cupboards<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #286cba;\"><a style=\"color: #286cba; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/freedomshowers.com\/Shower-and-ADA-Bathroom-Accessories\/Handicapped-Accessible-Shower-Accessories\/APFHHGBLS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hand-held shower<\/a><\/span> on an adjustable rod or high-low mounting brackets<\/li>\n<li>walk-in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #286cba;\"><a style=\"color: #286cba; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/freedombathtubs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bathtubs<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>certain renovations to permit a first-floor occupancy or secondary suite for a senior<\/li>\n<li>So much more\u2026follow this link to the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #286cba;\"><a style=\"color: #286cba; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/healthy-homes-renovation-tax-credit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Province of Ontario\u2019s website<\/a><\/span><\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Items not on the complete list may also be eligible, but would need to be reviewed. Check with your tax adviser when filing your income tax.<\/p>\n<p>But time is running out. Order soon to take advantage of the tax credit for the<strong> 2016 tax year.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Hopefully, there will be future tax credits available to help seniors and their families to make their homes more accessible and ready for aging in place. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>But as of January 1, 2017 this particular tax credit will no longer be available.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Who is eligible?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are 65 years old or older by the end of the year for which you are claiming the credit, or;<\/li>\n<li>you are living with a family member who is a senior, than you are eligible for the tax credit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What do you need to know?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can claim up to $10,000 worth of eligible home improvements at one residence on your personal tax return. At 15% credit, that\u2019s a <strong>maximum of $1,500<\/strong> that you can get back.<\/p>\n<p>Also, some expenses would not quality, like renovations or repairs that simply improve the value of a home, like electrical updates or roof repairs. Also, mobility\u00a0devices, like wheelchairs, rolling shower chairs and walkers, <u>would not qualify<\/u> for this tax credit, though there may be other credits available specifically for assistive devices.<\/p>\n<p>Check the Ontario website for specific details and consult with your accountant or tax adviser before filing your taxes.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #286cba;\"><a style=\"color: #286cba; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/healthy-homes-renovation-tax-credit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/healthy-homes-renovation-tax-credit<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you know of any other tax credit programs that can help seniors in Canada or the US?
